Frederick C. Oberholzer

Frederick C. Oberholzer, age 88, of Canton, passed away Friday, November 1, 2013. He was born November 22, 1924 in Dennison, Ohio, son to the late Frederick and Mercedes (Cummings) Oberholzer.

He was a 1943 graduate of Uhrichsville High School and proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. where he participated in the Normandy invasion. Frederick then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Union College and a Master of Arts degree from Case Western Reserve University. He was an English teacher for Canton Public Schools for 36 years, adjunct professor of English, Kent State University, Stark and Tuscarawas campuses for ten years. His memberships include, Church of the Savior United Methodist, Stark County Retired Teacher's Association, Mount Union Century Raider's Club and Mount Union Class President 1949.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Genevieve (Shively) Oberholzer; daughter, Susan Buckel and granddaughter, Stephanie Lynn Buckel.

He is survived by his sons, Charles (Diane) Oberholzer of North Canton, Alan "Duke" (Kathe) Oberholzer of Canton; daughter Rebecca (Randy) Montgomery of North Canton; ten grandchildren; one great granddaughter and two great grandsons; brother, Hal (Gretchen) Oberholzer of Fort Wayne, Indiana and sister, Gretchen (John) Patterson of North Canton.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Barb and the Staff of Canton Regency for the past four years as well as the staff at AseraCare Hospice during the past year for their tender loving care.

Funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00am in Church of the Savior United Methodist with Rev. Edward Fashbaugh officiating. Private interment will be in Moultrie Chapel Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Monday evening from 5-8pm in the Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel, 801 Pittsburg Ave. NW. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his name to the Susan Oberholzer Buckel Alumni Council Scholarship Fund C/O the University of Mount Union.
