A lifelong resident of Dennison, Gary graduated from Claymont High School in 1973. He worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation in road and bridge construction for 30 years before retiring in 2005 and was employed with Shelly & Sands Inc. at the time of his passing. The most important thing in Gary’s life was his family; his undying love and commitment to them will be his lasting legacy. Gary was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, photography, and gardening among his many interests. Gary had a passion for tapping maple trees and making his own homemade maple syrup which he shared with his family and friends. He also served the local community for many years as an advisor for the Park Valley Ranchers 4-H Club. Gary was a member of First Christian Church of New Philadelphia for the past ten years. Prior to that, Gary had been an active member and board member for the Park Christian Church in Dennison.
In addition to his parents, Gary is survived by his wife, Mecca Sue (Pica) Henry, to whom he was married on February 14, 1993, and four children: sons Gary L. Henry II and wife, Janelle, of Peru, NY and Samuel “Sam” L. Henry and fiancé, Christine, of Green River, WY; daughter Kaitlyn B. Henry of Dennison; and stepson Seth McMath of Green River, WY. He is also survived by his two brothers, Rusty Henry and wife, Donna, of Dennison and Steve Henry and wife, Jill, of Rush Township; mother and father in law, Bob and Sue Shaw of Uhrichsville; brother-in-law, Ryan and wife Stephanie Shaw of Uhrichsville; sister-in-law, Angelica and husband Tony Jones of Coshocton; and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Gary’s wishes, cremation will take place prior to services. A celebration of Gary’s life, officiated by Rev. David M. Bryan, will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, July, 24 at Park Christian Church in Dennison. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon (one hour prior to services) on Wednesday July 24, 2013 at the church.
