Richard Andrew "Rick" Brown



Richard Andrew “Rick” Brown, 70, of Hopedale, formerly of Uhrichsville, died at Harrison Community Hospital in Cadiz on Thursday, September 12, 2013 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Born April 29, 1943 in Steubenville, he was a son of the late Cecil Andrew and Emilena Gretna (Barcus) Brown.
 
A 1961 graduate of Freeport High School, Rick proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War before returning home to a career as a welder for the local railroad industry. As a loyal friend and patriot, he was traveling to the opening ceremony of the local exhibition of the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall at the time of his death. Rick was a member of Hopedale American Legion Post #682 where he served as the Chaplain, the American Legion Riders Ohio Chapter of which he was a founding member and Director, the Military Society of the 40 & 8, the Uhrichsville Eagles, ABATE of Ohio: Region 1, and the treasurer for the Harrison County Council.
 
Rick is survived by a son, Troy D. (Jennifer) Poole of Dover; grandsons, Trevor and Travis Poole of Dover; sister, Cecelia Krocker of New Philadelphia; sister-in-law, Sharon Brown; aunts, Bonnie Steiner, Sandra (Ray) Barcus, Pearl Barcus and Marcie Barcus; uncle, James (Vickie) Barcus; Riley Devore of Dennison who was like a granddaughter to him; and many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins. His extended family of Roger Smally; Dion and Bri DiBacco; Dirk Harkins; the Hopedale American Legion; and the Legion Riders will continue the tradition of service to God and Country that was a foundation of his life.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma (Muth) Brown; a brother, Amos “Skip” Brown; and brother-in-law, Dave Krocker.
 
In keeping with Rick’s wishes, he has been cremated. His family will receive callers on Saturday, September 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Immediately following calling hours, those in attendance will proceed to the Hopedale American Legion Post #682, located at 48225 Rabbit Road in Hopedale, where military honors will be presented followed by a celebration of his life.
