Infielder Cristian Guzman has taken a physical for the Cleveland Indians and says he will sign a minor league contract with the club. Guzman was spotted in the hallway of the Indians' training facility yesterday as players took physicals before the team's first official workouts this week. Later, Guzman took an empty stall in Cleveland's clubhouse.
Leave it to closer Chris Perez to proclaim the Cleveland Indians have finished rebuilding. The hard-throwing Perez says "Winning is the word this year. We want to win."
The Cincinnati Reds will test Aroldis Chapman as a starter this spring. The 24-year old lefthander, whose pitches have been clocked at 105 mph, has a 6-3 record with a 3.27 ERA in 69 relief appearances over the last two seasons with Cincinnati. The Reds want to see if they can maximize their uncharacteristic $30 million investment.
Deshaun Thomas scored 19 points and Number 8 Ohio State regained its shooting touch, rolling over Illinois 83-67 last night to remain in the thick of the Big Ten race. Ohio State shot 65 percent from the field.

The San Antonio Spurs' 11-game winning streak in the NBA came to a screeching halt last night in Portland. The Trail Blazers opened a 23-point halftime lead and led 103-65 after three quarters in downing the Spurs 137-97.
"Linsanity" returns tonight to New York where the Knicks host the Atlanta Hawks at Madison Square Garden. Jeremy Lin has people watching the Knicks in record numbers as the team reports its last two games were the highest-rated regular season events on MSG since the network began tracking household ratings in the 1988-89 season.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored 18 points, Anthony Davis added 13 points and 11 rebounds and No. 1 Kentucky rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit to beat Mississippi State, 73-64. Kidd-Gilchrest scored 12 of his 18 in the second half as Kentucky improved to 27-1 overall and 13-0 in the Southeastern Conference.
Jordan Theodore scored a career-high 29 to lead Seton Hall to the signature win it needed for its NCAA tournament resume, a 73-55 victory over No. 9 Georgetown.
Rodney McGruder scored 24 points and Kansas State upset No. 3 Missouri 78-68 for the Wildcats' second win this season over the Tigers. Kansas State led 40-30 at halftime, and by 16 points in the second half before a late run by Missouri faded.
The Fiesta Bowl's former top executive pleaded guilty Tuesday to a felony charge stemming from a political donations scandal that nearly jeopardized the bowl's role as a regular host of college football's national championship game. John Junker entered the plea in Phoenix for his role in soliciting political contributions from Fiesta Bowl employees that led to his firing last year and the resignation of Natalie Wisnewski, the Fiesta Bowl's chief operating officer.
Brady Quinn is apologizing to Tim Tebow for unflattering comments Quinn made about the Denver Broncos' starting quarterback in a GQ article. In it, Quinn was quoted as saying the Broncos were extremely lucky and says the fans were the reason Tebow leapfrogged him on the depth chart when supplanting Kyle Orton as the starter after a 1-4 start.
There are 32 matches scheduled today on opening day of the five-day WGC World Match Play Championship in the Arizona desert. Luke Donald, Martin Kaymer, Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood are the No. 1 seeds in the 64-man event.
