Barbara Ruth McCartney, age 76, of 76040 Skullfork Road, Freeport, died at 6:43 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Dave Burrier, 115 North Chestnut Street, Gnadenhutten, Ohio.
Born December 29, 1936 Wheeling, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Lester Latimer and Ruth Dolly Yatsko Latimer.
Barb was a 1954 graduate from Freeport High School. She was a member of the Lakeland Senior Citizens and West Chester Senior Citizens. She helped with the Lakeland Group Ministries food cupboard and enjoyed spending Sundays with her grandchildren.
Her husband, Robert Rolland “Nattie” McCartney died November 16, 1996. They were married October 5, 1973. Together they loved horse racing and lived the race horse circuit for many years.
Surviving are six children: Robert Hamilton of Freeport, Connie (Dave) Burrier of Gnadenhutten where she was residing, Pam (Keith) Aldergate of Sherrodsville, Penny (Tim) Bear of Wright, Wyoming, Penny (Troy) Peoples of Dover, and Ron “Junior” (Lisa) Moreland of Dennison; seven grandchildren: Shannon (Rocky) Moore, Brittany (Roger Bloom) Stine, Megan Hamilton, Alex Hamilton, Brianna Hamilton, Samantha Hamilton, and Emma Hamilton; one great-granddaughter, Cloey Moore; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Patrick McCartney.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 17 in Koch Funeral Home, 216 S High Street, Freeport where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18th with Pastor Dave Koch officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmont Union Cemetery, Freeport.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas.
