Lester M. Feltis, 91, of Orrville and formerly of Kidron, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Brenn-Field Nursing Center in Orrville following a period of declining health.
He was born in LaMoure, ND on August 21, 1921 to the late Oscar and Eulalia (Riddle) Feltis and was raised by Martin and Elda Lehman in Kidron. He served as a smoke jumper for the US Forest Service during WWII and retired from Louisiana-Pacific in 1985. He also had worked at LE Sommers, Amstutz Hatchery and did some upholstery work.
He was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Orrville and was a charter member of the Kidron Volunteer Fire Department where he had served 3 terms as a trustee. He was a charter member of the Kidron Mennonite Church.
On December 21 1947, he married Jean Hartzler, who survives. Also surviving are children, Carol (Ron) Robinson, and Jeff Feltis, both of Norwalk and Scott (Lee Ann) Feltis of Dalton; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; and a sister, Laverne Van Volkenberg of Oregon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Esther Lehman and Hazel Layman.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 300 S. Walnut Street, Orrville, with Pastors Mark Buckwalter, Ramsey Wallace and Terry Burkholder officiating. Family graveside services will be held prior in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville. Friends may call on SUNDAY from 2-5 PM at the Spidell Funeral Home, 15900 E. Main Street, Mount Eaton.
