Finishing Shop Fire under Investigation

Officials with the Sugarcreek Fire Department are still looking into a Friday afternoon fire at Weaver’s Furniture.

Lieutenant Kevin Troyer says the fire was reported around 4:25pm at the business located at 7011 Old Route 39 in Sugarcreek.

Captain Dan Yoder says the fire was contained to a finishing shop on the property, with no damage to the store’s showroom being reported. Yoder says when crews arrived on scene, one end of building was fully involved.

Troyer says crews had to use water from nearby hydrants at Dutch Valley Restaurant to battle the blaze.

As of 7:40pm Friday, the fire had been completely extinguished, with crews focused on various hot spots that remained from the fire.

The cause of the fire is being ruled “undetermined” at this time. An investigator with the Dover Fire Department and officials with the state fire marshal’s office are expected to continue to investigate the exact cause of the fire.

Crews from Dover, New Philadelphia, Baltic, Dundee, Strasburg, York Township, and Stonecreek assisted at the scene.
