A lifelong resident of the area, Eleanor graduated with honors from Freeport High School in 1950. In her youth, she worked at the ice plant and Keystone Shoe Store in Uhrichsville. She then spent many years as the cook for the YMCA camp in Tippecanoe and at the Red Barn. In her later years, she proudly served as an officer for the Cadiz Police Force after completing her training at the Harrison County Law Enforcement Academy. Until very recently, she maintained her certification as an officer.
Eleanor was very active in her community throughout her life. She was a longtime member of Deersville United Methodist Church where she was the president of the Women of Mission. She was also a member of the Deersville Red Hat Mamas, the Brushy Fork Homemakers and the Deersville Improvement and Historical Preservation Society. Eleanor was a cast member in the first production by the Deersville Community Players and continued to work in the box office for many years. She served as a past Mayor of Deersville, as well.
On April 28, 1957, Eleanor married Edward Francis Hren with whom she enjoyed twenty-seven years of marriage until his passing on their 27th anniversary, April 28, 1984. They are survived by two sons, Ronald W. (Kim) Hren of Winterville, N. Car. and E. Michael (Deborah) Hren of Huntersville, N. Car.; a daughter, Nancy (John) Sukosd of Deersville; grandchildren, Joseph Hren, Richard (Peggy) Hren, Alexandria Hren, Heather Grunert, Christina Ladd, Julianna Wickstron, Sean Hren, Aaron Hren, Adam Hren, Jack Owens, Jacob (Julie) Sukosd and Joshua (Bethany) Sukosd; and great-grandchildren, Leann Hren, Drake Fray, Destiny Bland, Wesley and Lindsey Hren, Evan Saunders, Ryland Owens and Halsten Sukosd. Eleanor is also survived by her sister, Sharon (John) Price of Flushing; many nieces, nephews and other extended family members; and her church family who was very dear to her and was such a blessing and support to her throughout her life, but especially in the last several months. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Robert E. Hubble to whom she was married on June 11, 1988 and who died on June 29, 1991; a brother, Howard Cope; and a sister, Melba Toole.
Services for Eleanor, officiated by Rev. Keith Cope and Rev. Harry Milligan, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Deersville’s Patterson Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, as well as for an hour prior to the service on Friday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Deersville United Methodist Church and the Deersville Volunteer Fire Department.
