Karla J. "Little Bear" Mackey



Karla J.  "Little Bear" Mackey, age 44, of 8086 Woodside Drive S.W., Sherrodsville,  Ohio  (Atwood Lake area) died suddenly early Monday morning, August 26, 2013 in Union Hospital at Dover after becoming ill in her home.

She was born December 27, 1968 in Lorain, Ohio and was the daughter of  Bobby Caulfman McClure of Lorain, and the late Karl McClure. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother Jerry Mervis and a sister Valarie Mervis.

Karla was primarily a homemaker who preferred spending her time creating.  She was very adept at drawing and painting, and also engaged in other types of crafts.  She was a faithful member of the Canton Gospel Temple and was a graduate of Southview High School in Lorain.  She was always able to  place her primary focus on her family.  She favored  going for walks with her husband Terry down by Atwood Lake, oftentimes very late at night.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Terry A. Mackey, whom she married April 26, 2008, her six children Kushiah McClure of Sherrodsville, Ciara Mackey of Dover, O., Phoenix Mackey of Sherrodsville, Breanna Mackey of Brewster O.,  Ted Mackey of Columbus, O., and Mrs. Tammi (Mike) Shrum of Canton, O.,  a brother Eddy (Chrissy) Mervis of Lorain, and a sister, Lori Kokoski of Elyria, O., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 Noon Friday, August 30, 2013 in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Pastor Henry L. Henderson officiating.  Interment will follow in the Roxford Church Cemetery. Calling hours will be held  Thursday from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. in the funeral home.  The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the  American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, P.O.
