Beulah L."Boots" Oakes

Beulah L. "Boots" Oakes, 81, of Jackson Twp. passed away at home on Tuesday morning, September 3, 2013 following an extended illness. She was born in Royers Ford, PA on October 1, 1931 to the late Harvey T. & Naomi (Lehman) Buckwalter.

"Boots" was a member of the Amherst Community Church and a former member of Brookside Country Club, were she enjoyed golfing and bowling. She was also a member of the Stark County Women's Garden Club. She was a graduate of the Messiah Academy of Grantham, PA. She supported her family's business endeavors by working at the OakPark Preschool as well as helping her husband at Oakes Construction. "Boots" was dedicated to her children and grandchildren and enjoyed making strawberry jam, homemade ice cream, and coloring Easter eggs with them. Watching the wildlife, birds, and butterflies brought her great joy.

Beulah is survived by her husband, Galen M. Oakes, whom she married on March 31, 1950, their children, Garry Oakes of Fort Meyers, FL, Larry Oakes of Vero Beach, FL, Yvonne (Daniel) Fleishour of Canal Fulton, Lynette Oakes of Massillon and Galen M. (Malinda) Oakes II of Canton, sixteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two sisters, Arlene Van Riper of Gilbertsville, PA, Esther (Nelson) Wingert of Mechanicsburg, PA, and a brother, Ray (Ruth)Buckwalter of North Lawrence.

She is also preceded in death by her grandson, Jesse Fleishour, and a brother, Paul Buckwalter.

Friends may gather at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home on Friday, September 6, 2013 from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday September 6, 2013 in the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Pastor Galen M. Oakes II & Rev. Atlee Hershberger, officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Amherst Community Church.
