The Cambridge Post of the State Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into a three vehicle fatal crash Friday afternoon.
According to a news release, the crash occurred around 2pm when the driver of a Cadillac SUV travelling northbound on Interstate 77 near milepost 57 in Guernsey County lost control of the vehicle, went off the right side of the roadway, and struck a guardrail. As a result of the incident, a back seat female passenger of the GMC SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other occupants of the GMC SUV were transported to Southeastern Medical Center in Cambridge and then life-flighted to Pittsburgh. The male driver and female passenger of the commercial semi both refused treatment at the scene. The female driver and female passenger in the Cadillac SUV were also transported to Southeastern Medical Center, while two male passengers in the vehicle refused treatment at the scene.
The crash closed the southbound lanes of Interstate 77 for nearly four hours. The Cambridge Fire Department, Liberty Fire Department, United Ambulance, Tri County Ambulance, Pine Tree Towing, Danny’s Towing, Express Towing, the Guernsey County Coroner, and the Ohio Department of Transportation all assisted at the scene.
