Earnest T. Paris



Earnest T. Paris, age 87, of Massillon died October 16, 2013 at Meadow Wind Health Care Center. Born in Massillon October 22, 1925, he was a son to the late Anthony and Calliopie Paris.

Ernie served his country as a U.S. Army veteran in WWII. He was a 1943 graduate of Washington High School and received his college degree at the Ohio State University. Ernie taught in the Fairless Schools and was a guidance counselor at Massillon City Schools. He was owner of the Alibi Bar for over thirty five years and later owned Ernie’s Place. He was an avid sports enthusiast, excellent handicapper, and koupas player.

Ernie was a staunch member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church and Order of AHEPA Chapter 74. Ernie was instrumental in the development of the St. George Community Center.

His beloved wife, Sophia died in 1992; also pre-deceased were his twin brother, George Chouris, as well as Papos Paris; and his step-mother Despina Paris.

Ernie is survived by his brothers, Thomas (Alexandra) Paris of Lyndhurst, Alexander (Athena) Paris and Pete (Michela) Paris, both of Massillon; sister-in-law, Evelyn Chouris and brother-in-law Don Bricker; nieces, Victoria Chouris (Toby) Notman, Linda Chouris, Callie (Charles)Rini, April Paris (Ben Price) , and Denise Paris; nephews, Don Bricker, Jr., Mark Bricker, Jeff Bricker,  Anton (Beth) Paris, Tom (Lauren) Paris, John (Lora) Paris, Tasso Paris, Michael Paris, and George Chouris, Jr.; grand-nephews, Christian Paris, and George Chouris III;  grand niece, Amy Chouris; very good friends, Natalie and Dick Gravo, Beth and Brian Schnell, E. L. Sutherland, Gust Diamant, and Gus Stavrakis. The family would like to thank the entire Meadow Wind staff for their outstanding tender care.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday October 19 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church with Reverend Father Yannie Verginis and Reverend Father Constantine G. Shiepis officiating.  Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday October 18 at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon.  The Trisagion Service will be 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Ernie requested memorials be reverently given to St. George Greek Orthodox Church in lieu of flowers. Burial will be in Massillon Cemetery.
