Elvira "Vera" McCormish, age 81, a resident of Sunnyslope Nursing Home, Bowerston for the past five years, formerly of the Cuyahoga Falls and Stow areas, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2013 in Union Hospital, Dover after a lengthy illness.
Born August 30, 1932 in Kiel, Germany she was the daughter of the late Heinrich Erich Steffen and Dorathea Arfsten Steffen. She met her first husband Kenneth Perry Marteny who was stationed in Germany. They had four children and moved to the United States in 1954. She married her second husband John McCormish in 1980 he preceded her in death in 1993. Also preceding her in death are two sons Perry and Stephen Marteny, a grandson Chad and three brothers Heinz, Arthur and Werner Steffen.
Surviving are two children Heidi (Charles "Gene") Miller of Scio and Klaus (Gail) Marteny of North Carolina; nine grandchildren Drew, Jason, Erich, Deatra, Samantha, Charles, Dorathea, Andrea and Nicholas and two sisters Erika Andrea and Lori Guessou.
She was Lutheran by faith and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, painting and playing games on her computer.
In keeping with Elvira's wishes her body is being cremated.
Koch Funeral Home, Scio has been entrusted with her arrangements.
