Rose Marie Tomasina

Rose Marie Tomasina, 94, of Dennison, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville after a brief illness. Born July 21, 1919 in Newcomerstown, she was a daughter of the late Wendell J. and Rosalie (Yanai) Yanai.
Rose grew up in Newcomerstown and was a graduate of Newcomerstown High School in the class of 1940. A resident of Dennison since 1941, she was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison and its Altar Society. She was employed for thirty years by Immaculate Conception Elementary’s school cafeteria, and most recently, had worked at the Dennison Yard and Berni’s Italian Deli and café until she was 92. In her younger years, she loved to golf and was an avid bowler, having been inducted into the Dover-New Philadelphia Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
On September 27, 1941, Rose married Anthony John Tomasina with whom she enjoyed over sixty-three years of marriage until his passing on March 21, 2005. They were blessed with two sons, Tony Tomasina of Columbus and Mark Tomasina of Dennison; two daughters, Rosie (Bud) Gordon of Orange Co., California and Wendy Tomasina Swenson who preceded them in death; a son-in-law, Rich Swenson of Denver, Colorado; 6 grandchildren, Joey and Jodi Tomasina, Chase (Serena) Gordon, Gina (Brad) Miller, and Lindsey and Renee Swenson; 3 great-grandchildren, J.T. and Shelby Tomasina and Presley Gordon; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Rose will also be missed by her dear sister-in-law, Virginia Berni. The last of her generation, Rose was preceded in death by five brothers, Wendel J. Yanai, Jr., Henry H. “Sharkey” Yanai, Chris Yanai, Elmer and Andrew “A.P.” Yanai, and three sisters, Helen Basiletti, Irene Williams and Anne Abbott.
Services for Rose, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, in Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday at the close of calling hours. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Immaculate Conception Church’s Memorial Book Fund and Crossroads Hospice.
