Born July 14, 1936 in Piney Fork he was a son of the late Emmett R. Emery and Opal Cross Emery. He graduated from Scio High School in 1956 and served in the Army for 2 years. He worked at the Scio Pottery for 30 years where he was affectionately known as "Stanley Stamper" and he operated Spring Hill Farm in Bowerston for 20 years. In 1989 he moved to Florida where he worked for Eagle One Citrus in Clewsiton and returned to Ohio in 1994 and worked for American Road Machinery in Minerva until retiring in 2001.
Stanley was a member of the Carroll Co. DAV Chapter 85 and while in high school he was a member of the FFA. He enjoyed going to auctions, fishing and playing the lottery. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Surviving are his children Stanley "Larry" Cross, Jr. (companion TJ Lucas) of Carrollton, Jeffrey Cross of Bowerston, Robert (Pam) Cross of Carrollton, Bill Cross of Perrysville and Angela Cross of Carrollton; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers Dale Emery of Bowerston, Richard Emery of Niabrara, Nebraska and Larry Emery of Canton; a sister Lois (Edwin) Emery Sittig of Lombard, Illinois; two aunts; a sister-in-law; three brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Louise Snively Cross on July 4, 2012; a sister Marjorie Habash and a brother Wayne Emery.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Koch Funeral Home, Scio with Pastor Dean Blythe officiating. Burial will follow in Perrysville Cemetery.
