Dorothy Ethel Harding

Dorothy Ethel Harding, 93, Newcomerstown, formerly of Tuscarawas, passed away on
Tuesday, December 10, in the emergency room of Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.  Dorothy was born in Rush Township, Tuscarawas County, on December 28, 1919, the daughter of the late Raymond Marion and Lillie Belle Bowen Westhafer.

She was employed as an assembler for Bates Metals, Port Washington, for many years. Dorothy was a member of the Sharon Moravian Church, Warwick Township, for over 50 years. Recently, she has been attending King’s United Methodist Church, Oxford Township, Newcomerstown. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, baking, cooking, and raising flowers.  

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband,                 
Lorin O. Harding, Newcomerstown, who died on December 17, 2004. Dorothy and Lorin were married on July 25, 1973. She was also the last member of her generation of the Westhafer family, as she was preceded in death by her four brothers: Glen C. Westhafer, Newcomerstown, who died in 2006, Ralph M. Westhafer, Port Washington, who died in 1995,  and Delbert Westhafer and Harold Westhafer, both of Tuscarawas. Also deceased are a sister-in-law, Mary V. (Mrs. Ralph) Westhafer, Port Washington, who died in 2003, and a nephew, Benjamin H. Westhafer, Newcomerstown, who died in 1998.  

Dorothy is survived by her caregiver and niece,  Sandra (Mrs. Earl) McCormick,
Newcomerstown, a nephew, Glen C. “Bud” and wife Terri Westhafer, Apple Creek, a niece, Karen J. Westhafer, Newcomerstown, her sister-in-law, Barbara J. “Barb” (Bates)  Westhafer, Newcomerstown, her niece-in-law, Lydia (Mrs. Benjamin) Westhafer, Newcomerstown, and several great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, and great great nephews.
 To honor Dorothy’s wishes, no visiting hours will be observed. Public grave side services and burial will be held on Saturday, December 14, 1:00 PM, at the Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery, Warwick Township. Rev. Eric Miller will conduct the services. The family is requesting that memorials be made in Dorothy’s name to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 121 South College St., Newcomerstown 43832. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
