Veda M. Stephens, 61, of Uhrichsville, passed away at her home on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 after a bravely fought six year battle with cancer. Born July 16, 1952 in Barnesville, she was a daughter of the late Arden T. and Julia M. (Sampson) Stephens.
A 1970 graduate of Indian Valley North High School, Veda was a resident of Tuscarawas County for most of her life. She was the administrative manager at Mako’s Market and Pharmacy in Uhrichsville since January 1, 1994, having been previously employed by Superior Dairy for seven years. Veda loved family gatherings for holidays or any occasion that she could come up with.
Veda is survived by her husband, Frank W. Specht, to whom she was wed on November 23, 1984; a son, Robert W. Specht of the home; brothers, Chester Stephens of New Philadelphia, Larry (Nelva) Stephens of California, Rodney Stephens of Uhrichsville, Tom (Pattie) Stephens of Dover and Lenza (Wendy) Stephens of Florida; a sister-in-law, Sally Stephens of Tuscarawas; a special niece, Linda Stephens, who was a great blessing to Veda during her extended illness; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Melvin Stephens.
A memorial service and celebration of her life, officiated by Pastor Scot Caley, will be held on Sunday, December 22, at 2:00 p.m. in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison.
