Peggy Lou Swartzentruber

Peggy Lou Swartzentruber, age 73, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, December 13, 2013, in her home after a lengthy illness. Born May 8, 1940, at Stone Creek, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Kathryn Miller Lehman.

Peggy attended school at Stone Creek, and, as a young lady, went to work for Union Hospital at Dover.  There, she met her future husband, Ervin Swartzentruber.  The couple were wed on November 3, 1962 – they had just celebrated their fifty-first anniversary.

Peggy was a long-time member of the Foursquare Gospel Church at Dover, and had served as the church’s custodian for over thirty years.  She loved baking pies, cakes and cookies, and was always up to trying a new recipe.  Peggy liked tending to the flowers around her home as well, and was especially fond of yellow marigolds.  In later years, one of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandson, Zack.

In addition to her loving husband, Ervin, Peggy is survived by her two daughters, Sue Ann Raber of Robertsville, and Carol A. (Bill) Nedrow of Dover; her grandson, Zackerie Nedrow; her four sisters, Laura Marie (Paul) Morckel of Robertsville, Edith Mardell Lahmers of East Sparta, Bessie (Wayne) Bissell of Dover, and Audrey (Solomon Eicher) Green of Dundee; her two brothers, Roger (Janice) Lehman of East Canton, and Chester “Chuck” (Cathy) Lehman of Stone Creek; Ervin’s sisters and brothers  and their spouses; and her many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by infant twin brothers; her three brothers, Dale, Robert and Theodore Lehman; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nellie and Enos Swartzentruber.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 803 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, on Monday, December 16, 5 – 8 p.m.  A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastors Dennis Shearer, David Wing and Ron May officiating.  Immediately following the service, there will be a luncheon at the Foursquare Gospel Church.  To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Peggy, please visit the Obituaries and Flowers link on the funeral home’s website.
The family suggests that contributions in Peggy’s memory be made to the church at 302 E. Slingluff Ave., Dover, Ohio 44622.
