​Roland J. Berger



Roland J. Berger, 96, of West Street in Baltic died Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Park Village Health Care Center at Dover.  He was born November 5, 1917 in Ragersville to the late John R. and Iona E. (Knecht) Berger. 
 
He owned and operated the former Ott Hardware in Baltic and later Berger Enterprises.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church at Baltic and had served as Superintendent of Sunday School. He was a Marine Corps veteran of WW II, was past Commander of the Tuscarawas County Council of American Legion, life member of Post 679 American Legion in Baltic and life member of the Army Navy Club in Dover.  He was past President of the Baltic Board of Education, former member of the Baltic Firemen and Baltic Lions Club and member of Baltic C.I.C.  He was a life time member of the NRA, Baltic Conservation Club and the Baltic and Ragersville Historical Societies. 
 
He married the former Lucille Ott on September 23, 1939 and she died November 5, 2008.  He is survived by his children Cheryl (John) Murray of Dover, Gary (Libby) Berger of Florida and David (Marky) Berger of Dover; grandchildren and great grandchildren Lisa House (Jesse Benedetti), Eric (Shel) Berger, Jade and Brooke; Lori (Craig) Perry, Mitchel, Sierra and Reid; Melissa (Patrick) Hoch; Karen (Michael) Risher, Julia, Kyler and Kinsie; Troy (Carrie) Murray and Michelle (Fumin) Murray-Yang; sisters Marilyn Hutchinson of New Philadelphia, Linda (Carl) Siders of Grove City and Tina (Ray) Mathias of New Philadelphia. 
 
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his brother, 4 sisters and infant son Roland Jr. 
 
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Smith-Varns Funeral Home at 1018 W. Main Street Sugarcreek with Pastor Ellen Mills officiating.  Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery in Baltic.  Friends may call on Friday 1-3 PM at the funeral home.   LORD-I thank you for the days you have given me.
