He was born September 19, 1942 in New Philadelphia, and was the son of the late Lynn E. and Mary Caroline Mann Tope. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Terry Lynn Tope, two sisters Caroline Padro and Sandra Ford, and his dog "Lucky".
He was a retired self-employed truck driver who was known by the CB handle "Red Devil". He spent many years behind the wheel of his Freightliner where he was extremely happy and content. As a younger man, he was fond of helping his parents operate their farm. Pete had a strong relationship with his children, often stopping to play with them and enjoy their company and was quite devoted to his grandchildren. Pete spent many hours caring for and tending to his lawn. In his later years, he picked up the hobby of woodworking. He possessed a strong sense of humor that he often shared with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl C. Raiff Tope, whom he married February 23, 1962, a daughter, Becky Davis and her companion Bill Berger of New Philadelphia, a son, Terry L. Tope, Sr. of Roswell, his three grandchildren Shawn (Lyndi) Stutzman of Canton, O., Amanda Stutzman of Sugarcreek, O., and Terry L. Tope, Jr. of Roswell, three great-grandchildren Luke and Logan Stutzman both of Canton, and Madyson Stutzman of Sugarcreek, a sister, Thelma Breyer of Newcomerstown, O., and his faithful dog Tuey.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 20, 2013 in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Rev. Steve Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
