Wayne Stone Pollock

Wayne Stone Pollock died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Community Hospice House after a more than 3-year battle with cancer. With family at his side, he passed peacefully from this life.

Wayne was married to his wife, Phyllis (Christy) Pollock on February 2, 1958 allowing them to celebrate 55 years together.

He was a 1952 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. Upon graduation, Wayne was accepted into the apprentice program at Warner & Swasey Co. He then had 49 years of foundry work at both IF Manufacturing in New Philadelphia and at Urick Foundry in Erie, PA, where he retired in 2003.

Wayne was an active member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia where he participated in the men’s study group, church choir, missions committee, and the communion visitation team. He had also served as a trustee and was a role model to everyone. While in Erie, he was active with the Glenwood United Methodist Church and a member of their Relay For Life team.

Wayne was an avid car enthusiast enjoying not only his own cars but the cars of others. His love for cars was highlighted by a trip to the Indianapolis Speedway where he and two of his sons (Greg and Scott) experienced the Richard Petty driving school allowing each of them to enjoy several laps around the track behind the wheel of a NASCAR race car while family members cheered them on.

Wayne also enjoyed running when at age 48 he decided to pick up the sport so his daughter would have someone to run. He went on to run several 5k races well into his 70s. He was also a skilled Dart Baseball player, winning several highest batting average and other awards while playing for the Otterbein Dart Baseball team in the county league.

He is survived by his loving wife, the former Phyllis Ann Christy; his children, John (Cynthia) Pollock of Green, Greg (Lori) Pollock of Aurora, Scott (Kate) Pollock of Stafford, Virginia, and Debra (Brian) Price of Paden City, West Virginia; his brother, David Pollock of New Philadelphia; his sister, Edna Waggamon of Sebring, Ohio; and his grandchildren, Nathan Pollock of Seattle, Washington, Benjamin Pollock of Baltimore, Maryland, Zachary and Daniel Pollock of Green, Mitchell and Emma Pollock of Aurora, Jacob and Caroline Pollock of Stafford, Virginia, and Samuel, Isaac and Rachel Price of Paden City, West Virginia.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Bessie (Gartrell) Pollock; his brothers, Peter Jr., Paul, Robert, Curtis, and Edward; and his sisters, Ruth Mizer, Edith Walters, and Mildred Geiser.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, 5600 N. Wooster Ave. Ext. A Celebration of Life will begin at 3 p.m.
