He was a 1946 graduate of Uhrichsville High School, a 1950 graduate of Muskingum College and a 1956 graduate of William McKinley Law School. He was a lawyer in Uhrichsville from 1956-1972, became Tuscarawas County Prosecutor in 1967 and later became Tuscarawas County Probate/Juvenile Judge in 1972 until his retirement in 1997.
Judge Demis was a member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge, Prosperity Grange, Tuscarawas County and Ohio State Bar Associations, member of the Ohio Association of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, member of the Ohio Association of Probate Judges and past President of the Nation College of Probate Judges
He is survived by his wife the former Bessie Balitsis whom he married in 1948. Also surviving are his daughters Diane (Dr. George) Changas of Knoxville, Tenn., Georgiane (Scott) Condo of New Philadelphia and Elaine (Tom) Donohoe of Northville, Michigan; grandchildren Stacy (Chris) Takonis, David (Christina) Changas, Erica (Philip) Collins, Angela (Tim) Nelms, Jason Klein, Matthew Klein, Carrie (Eric) Williams, Andrew (Erin) Donohoe, Christen (Dr. Andrew) Mahoney and great grandchildren Kate, Luke and Nicholas Changas, Molly, Emily, Frankie Takonis, Michael, and Georgea Collins, Claire and Max Nelms, Maya and Caitlyn Donohoe and Avery Mahoney; a brother Dr. Angelo (Linda) Demis of Peoria, Ariz and 3 sisters Sarah Kousagan of Massillon, Helen (Gus) Stavrakis of Massillon and Mary (Dr. Donald) Creager of Pueblo, Colorado; special nephew Sam (Mary) Kousagan of North Canton, special cousins George L. (Patti) Demis of Canton.
Special thanks to caregiver Diane Singleton and all of the angels from Community Hospice who cared for him during his illness. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant great grandson Henry Davis Williams and a brother-in-law Andy Kousagan.
Funeral services will be held Monday December 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM in St. George Greek Orthodox Church at 364 First St. S.E. Massillon, Ohio. Fr. Nick Gamvas and Fr. Yanni Verginis will officiate and burial will follow in Fort Laurens Cemetery at Bolivar. Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 8 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at 5600 N. Wooster Ave Dover, Ohio where Trisagion Services will be held at 7:00 PM.
