Minimum Wage Set to Increase January 1st

Thousands of Ohioans should notice a slight jump in their paycheck after the first of the year.

Amy Hanauer, Executive Director for Policy Matters Ohio, says approximately 330-thousand workers should benefit from the ten cent increase.

Hanauer notes that the wage increase should provide a modest economic impact to the state’s economy.

An additional twelve states are slated to increase their minimum wage on New Year’s Day, a move that will assist more than 2.5 million workers.

Hanauer says it’s important to recognize the effects the minimum wage increase will have on those who suffer from an increase in inequality.

Ohio’s minimum wage for tipped workers will also increase by five cents to $3.98 per hour, effective January 1st.
