Troopers Seize $182,000 of Heroin during Traffic Stop
Nathan Cozart Reporting
Two women remain behind bars after troopers seized thousands of dollars of heroin from their vehicle during a traffic stop Friday morning.
According to a news release, troopers stopped 25-year-old Jacqueline C. Couch of Bethesda and 26-year-old Jessica A. Jasper of Belmont at 2:56am Friday on State Route 39 for a vehicle defect violation. After an alert from a drug-sniffing canine from the Tuscarawas County Sherriff’s Office and observing “criminal indicators” in the vehicle, officials performed a probable cause search and seized more than a pound of heroin under the passenger’s seat along with a marijuana smoking pipe.
Both Couch and Jasper were arrested and charged with possession and trafficking in heroin, both first-degree felonies.
The two women are being held at the Tuscarawas County Jail. If convicted, each could face up to 20 years in prison and up to a $40,000 fine.
