Mary H. (Levengood) Hardesty

Mary H. (Levengood) Hardesty, 91, of Lancaster and formerly of Baltic died Friday, January 10, 2014 at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster.  She was born August 15, 1922 in Baltic to the late Daniel Francis and Vennie Elizabeth (Krebs) Levengood.
She was a member of the Baltic Zion United Church of Christ and the Women’s Guild, Baltic Women’s Study Club and the Baltic American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She was Secretary and Bookkeeper for the Baltic Lumber Company for 15 years and Secretary for Baltic School District and then Garaway School District of 31 years. 
During her time with the Garaway School system she was president of OPSE (Ohio Association of Public School Employees) for 20 years. 
She was married on August 31, 1997 to James R. Hardesty and he preceded her in death in 2012. 
She is survived by her sister Arlene Stantz of Sugarcreek and brother Kenneth Levengood of Baltic, niece JoAnne Wilcoxon of Baltic, nephews Jeff Levengood and Rick Stantz, 6 step children; Joycelyn I. (Kenneth, Sr.) Mead, Jerilyn G (David) Cartwright, Miriam Diehl, Mary Beth Hardesty, James R. Hardesty, Jr. and John Dean (Sue Ann) Hardesty, 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren and step son-in-law Stephen E. Oliver.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her step daughter Gwendolyn Oliver. Services will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Zion United Church of Christ at Baltic with Rev. Dr. James Henninger and Rev. Tina Black officiating.  Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery in Baltic.  Friends may call Thursday 4-6 PM at the Zion United Church of Christ at 204 N. Butler Street at Baltic and Friday 11-1 PM at the Church prior to services.
