He was born in Ashland on December 5, 1937 to the late Milo and Luella “Maxine” (Keener) Ickes and married Malinda Miller on September 9, 1972. She survives.
He retired in 2000 from the Rexroth Corporation following 43 years of service. He was a member of the UAW Local 1239. Bob enjoyed fishing, stock car races, watching professional sports on TV, trips to Florida to visit family and his loving dog, Sugar.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Barbara (John) Schlabach of Berlin and Robert (Teresa) Ickes Jr. of Beach City; step-children, Lonny (Rachel) Miller of Myakka City, FL, Ernie (Cassandra) Miller of Bradenton, FL, Debbie (Darrell) Seitz of Sarasota, FL, Brenda (Dwight) Bailey of Beach City, Rosetta (Dennis) Spitler of Apple Creek and Randy (fiancé Jodie) Miller of Wooster; 5 grandchildren, Sara, Johnny, Justin, Alexandria and Seth; 20 step-grandchildren; 19 step-great grandchildren; a step-great great grandchild; and a brother, Larry (Betty) Ickes of South Carolina.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-granddaughter, Madison Leigh Miller.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Spidell Funeral Home, 15900 E. Main Street, Mt. Eaton, with Pastor Chip Belanga officiating. Burial will follow in the Westlawn Cemetery in Mt. Eaton. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
